To strengthen partnering EFC of Japan churches in their evangelistic ministry through outreach English conversation classes taught by short term tentmaking missionaries sent through the EFCCM.
Qualifications of short term missionaries
Local church ministry
All short-term workers must be born again believers who attend an EFCC local church or another related evangelical church. They must have one year of some kind of regular ministry in their local church in Canada or the USA, verifiable by their pastor.
Motivation
Short-term workers must have a deep concern for sharing the good news of Christ with non-Christians and an ability to communicate basic Bible teachings in simple English.
Gender and Marital Status
The program is open to either single women or men (no couples at this point in time).
Education
While no theological education or professional degree (such as M.Div. or TESOL) besides college level education is required, the applicant/ candidate is expected to demonstrate willingness and patience with friendliness in communicating and conducting English classes in simple English.
English must be the mother tongue of the missionary.
Though no knowledge of the Japanese language is required, the applicant should have an interest in learning as much Japanese as possible once in Japan. This would include learning to read the two non-English Japanese phonetic scripts (hiragana and katakana).
Location
Generally, the single worker will teach at three churches in the greater Tokyo area.
Housing
Furnished housing is arranged by the partnering Japanese churches.
Finances
Remuneration from the partnering churches
Monthly salary for a single worker is 120,000 yen (about CAD$1400/USD$1300).
Rent is covered by the partnering churches.
Teaching expenses
All expenses for teaching supplies and transportation to/from classes are covered by the partnering churches.
Short term missionary’s financial responsibility
Round trip airfare from North America to Japan.
Utilities, if not included in rental provided by the partnering churches (about CAD$250 per month).
Groceries (about CAD$300 per month).
Personal in country travel and expenses (e.g., sightseeing, vacation).
Medical insurance from North America (arranged through the EFCCM)
Japanese health insurance (about CAD$200 per month)
